Fanfic: It was nice and breezy evening on the airfield with the sun about to set. Jennifer stood there with her hands spread to the side like a pair of wings soaring through the skies. She was enjoying the breeze when she felt a pair of arms around her waist giving her a warm loving embrace. She held on to the arms in a possessive way. She then felt a kiss on her cheek and whispered to her ear. “Don’t worry. It’s okay. I’m okay. Everyone’s okay. I just want you to know that I’ll always love you and I’ll always be with you. Remember that.” As the sun sets, the loving voice had faded along with the loving hug. “Eddy, come back! Eddy!” 
She kept on calling his name until she felt she was being shaken by someone. She opened her eyes and saw Izzy was in front of her. She turned to the clock on her nightstand and saw the time was 5am. Izzy saw Azzedy’s uniform in her hand and felt terrible inside to see how she really missed her husband. She sat next to her and put her arm around her shoulder. “I came in to check up on you. I think we should get ourselves ready early so that we have time to relax before the big assault.” She gave her a nod and headed for the shower. Izzy took the time to look around the quarters. She saw a photo album under the coffee table and took it out. She saw the pictures of Jennifer and her friends at the academy, the carrier days and the wedding. It really broke her heart to see how these two were meant for each other. They were never part from each other. 
Without noticing it, she dropped a few tears and quickly wiped it of when she heard the shower door opened. When Jennifer walked into the area, she saw the album in Izzy’s hand. “I accidentally brought it in my flightsuit during my last battle with the TCS St.Joseph. But I was lucky to have it as it was the only memories I have of my families. Izzy smiled to her and closed the album. “I’m sorry, I was just looking through.” “That’s alright. Help yourself.” She went to the closet to put on her uniform while Izzy opened the album once again. She was wondering that all the pictures that were taken with them doing weird things like as if they were wrestling one another, pretending the tools on the flight decks were music instruments. Neither of it had them standing still or official photos.  
“After I left the orphanage, they’re the only family I have back then.” Izzy was looking at the picture of Jennifer and her friends closely startled when she suddenly heard Jennifer’s voice. Jennifer was standing in front of her doing up her upper uniform buttons. Izzy looked up to her and smiled. Jennifer sat next to her and introduced Izzy to her friends. “This round guy was Alphonsus. He likes to create jokes and pranks every single day. The one with the glasses was Azrul. He’s Alphonsus partner in crime. They’re the Starsky and Hutch of the force. The tall guy in the centre was Captain Rizal.” “He’s a captain but he does all this crazy stuff with you guys?” “Sure, why not? He’s cool, calm and collected. The girl next to him is Sheila. Now these two were the hit of the gossips back then. They’ve been couple so long that they didn’t even notice it. Eventually they got married on the same day me and Eddy did.” She paused for a moment and Izzy felt bad for bringing up the memories in the first place. 
“That’s ok Izzy. Eddy and I were close since our days at the academy. The rest were close but not as close as Eddy. Let me tell you how I met him. I was at the town’s pub one night when some drunk tried to hassle me. I was about to punch him but he ducked. Eddy was just happened to be there and my punch landed on his nose. He fell to a table of drinks, there was a brawl, we fought, he punched me, I kicked him, the cops came, we ran through the back door and laughed about it.” Izzy was amazed by her tale. “You were actually involved in a fist fight?” Jennifer smiled before she continued. “Yeah. He offered me a ride back to the base, we introduced each other, since then we became friends.”  
Izzy cleared her throat and looked at the time. “Let’s head down to the Mess Hall for breakfast and I’d like to hear more about you if you don’t mind?” “No, not at all.” Izzy closed the album and replaced it under the coffee table as they left the quarters. At the Mess Hall, they were having breakfast while Jennifer continued her story. Izzy let out a small laugh while Jennifer chewed her food. “Honestly, when I first met the two of you, I didn’t think of you guys as married couple. You know, with your arguments in the air and the way the two of you teases each other.” “We’re not like any other couple who likes to be romantic 24/7. We only do that when we’re off duty and alone. The only times we show our affection was when we’re going for a separate missions.” 
They finished their breakfast and headed towards the hangar to check up on their veritechs. There, they saw Jack, who was doing some checkups on his new veritech, the YF-1R. They approached him and startled him. He wiped his hand then tossed the rag towards Izzy but she avoided it. “Good morning ladies.” “You know Jenny, I’ve heard that we have a new squad leader.” Jennifer giggled and made a guessing look. “I’ve heard that he’s a nutcase.” “Ha ha, funny ladies. By the way, have you checked your fighters yet? It’s almost time.” They giggled as they left him when he let out a yell. “Don’t forget to thank me later.” They still didn’t get what he meant until they’ve reached their fighters. 
They’ve been assigned the VF-1J with Izzy’s in her own Green and white with black stripe between the colors while Jennifer’s in stealth black. They then heard Jack’s voice from behind. “Jennifer, I’ve heard that you’ve flown a Stealth plane back at home.” “Actually, two Stealth planes.” Jack arched his eyebrow as Jennifer smiled at him. “Anyways, I took the liberty of assigning my two highly skilled subordinates a better veritech.” “Thank you Commander Archer.” The girls hugged him and he made a fake disgusted look. They continued to tease and joke with one another until they were paged to report to the briefing room. 
At the briefing room, all the pilots stood at attention when they saw Jack entered the room. Jack and the girls were amazed when they saw the new faces of the replacement pilots for the Wolf Squadron, the Viper Squadron led by Lieutenant Commander Benjamin Thomas, the Cougar Squadron led by Lieutenant Commander Brenda Wong and Hiro’s Destroid Unit. Hiro’s been promoted to Lieutenant Commander as well to lead the Destroid Unit. “Who are these kids Jack?” Jennifer whispered to him. He scratched his head before he replied. “They must be the new replacements. They’re a lot younger than I was during our draughts.” He ordered them to be at ease as they sat down. Jack and the girls were about to sit when Helena came in. Jack ordered them be at attention as Helena gave him a smile as she placed her file on the table.  
“Not that I’m being sarcastic and all but it’s kinda weird to have you giving out orders like that Commander.” Jack smirked to that remark as she ordered them to be at ease. After they had seated, Helena began to brief the pilots of their upcoming tasks.  
“Now this is going to be short and simple. You’ll be divided into two groups. One is the full assault group while the second one will be the interceptor. The Cougar Squadron and the Viper Squadron will take the assault. You will be up in the air to destroy anything that belongs to the Zentreadi. Reentry pods, fighter pods, scout ship, anything. They’re currently on their way heading towards the Zen City. You’ll launch in 35 minutes and you should be able to engage them in time. Wolf Squadron, you and the Destroid Unit will be heading straight towards the Zen City as you’ll assist the Destroid Unit to clear the city of the remaining Zeraal’s forces. Wolf leader, your objective is to hunt down Zeraal. This is the moment of truth everyone. You’ll launch in 40 minutes. Dismiss and good luck.  
After the formalities were done, they headed towards the locker room to suit up for their final battle. On the airfield, Jack and the girls were in their usual playful mood while the rest were deep in their own thoughts. When the signal from the control tower saying that the airfield is clear for activity, Jack turned to the girls with a smile on his face. “Well, this is it. The moment of truth. Let’s show Zeraal why we’re the earth’s finest.” Jennifer gave them a cocky smile and patted his head. “It’s payback time.” Izzy joined in the huddle and held out her hand in the centre. “For Eddy and the rest of us.” Jack and Jennifer put their hands on top of one another and counted three before shouting it out loud. 
After a group hug, they boarded their veritechs and started their start up sequences. Jennifer stuck her husband’s photograph on one of her rear view mirror as Izzy was doing her sequences when Hiro came on the tech channel. Hey guys, don’t be late or you’ll miss all the fun.” She looked up and saw the transport plane was flying above them carrying the Destroid units. The Viper squadron was the first to take off before the Cougar Squadron. After all the fighters had taken off, Jack led the Wolf Squadron towards the runaway. “Control, this is Wolf Squadron requesting permission to take off.” “Wolf Squadron, you are clear for take off.” He pushed the thrusters to the max and took off while the rest follows. 
Moments later, they were flying 80 feet above sea level when they saw the skies above them were filled with lights of explosions. Jennifer was in the moment of her own with the memories of her husband when they were flying combat missions together. She was smiling to herself when Jack came on the tech channel. “Guys switch to battloid mode and try to keep one another covered.”  
They all switched into battloid mode and landed in the city’s entrance. Hiro’s unit had already started the attack. Jack got concerned and asked them to move out as quickly as possible. As they moved along the streets towards Zeraal’s carrier, they ran into a group of battle pods. “Wolf 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 stay with me, the rest switch to guardian and take out the enemy.” While the guardians used its missiles, Jack, Izzy, Jennifer, Cassandra, Enrique and the two newly graduated pilots, Private 1st classes Anthony Jackson and Joanna Peters fired their gun pods. 
As they used the buildings as covers, they battled the battle pods with every single shot counts. “There are eight of them right behind the collapsed bridge with two turrets. Jenny, Cassandra, take the left flanking position and you’ll fire upon my command. Enrique, take Anthony and Joanna to the right and provide covering fire when Jenny and Cassandra reloads. When you see Izzy and I switched to guardian mode, move up and take them all out.” Moments later, they took their positions and waited for Jack’s orders. Jack and Izzy crouched and counted five seconds before giving the signal. Jenny and Cassandra fired their gun pods and took the attention of the battle pods. The battle pods retaliated along with their turrets. As planned, Enrique’s group assumed fire when Jenny’s group reloaded. They managed to take out the enemy turrets.  
Jack gave the signal to Izzy and initiated their plan and the rest followed. They switched back to battloid mode and went in for a close encounters battle. As they were clearing the battle pods, two MPA dropped in right behind Cassandra’s veritech. One of it lifted her battloid and smashed it to the ground. Enrique was about to fire when the MPA used Cassandra’s battloid as a shield. Enrique wasn’t sure if her friend was still alive but she couldn’t take any chances. That hesitations gave the other MPA an opportunity and fired its cannon towards her and blown her into pieces. Jenny and Joanna fired their pods towards them at point blank range. Jack kneel his battloid next to Cassandra’s and opened her cockpit before looking at the rest. “She’s gone. Let’s get moving and end this before more of us getting killed.”  
As they moved up, Anthony and Joanna were covering the rear while the three of them took up the front when Joanna’s Battloid lost its head. Jack knew those green blasts very well. “Snipers! Take cover!” They managed to take cover but Anthony couldn’t make it in time as he was shot from the back. Izzy took a hit but it was just a scrape along her Battloid’s arm.  
Izzy turned to the new pilots to check up on them. “Wolf 6, Wolf 7, what’s your status?” “This is Wolf 6. I’m alright. All of my systems are gone.” “This is Wolf 7, I’m okay. Just a little shaky that’s all. My Battloid’s headless at the moment.” Jack was relief that both of them were okay. “Both of you don’t move. We’ll try to get rid of those snipers before we can get you to safety.”  
Jack tries to see through the abandoned building and saw where the snipers were. “Izzy, there are four of them up there. Two on north east high, one on the west low and the other is just above the west. I’ll try to get the northern guys while the two of you take out the other two. Let’s try simultaneously.” As they spread out along the streets, they kept themselves hidden between rubbles and buildings to prevent the MPA’s to get a clean shot. Jennifer was about to reach her point when she accidentally stepped on an old fire hydrant causing it to burst. The MPA’s were about to move towards her position when Jack and Izzy managed to take out two of them in their sniper mode. Jennifer took the chance to use her sniper mode and took out one of it. 
Izzy switched to guardian mode and hovered out of her cover to lure the last one out. It took the bait as Jack took the shot. Jack approached the fallen battloids of Anthony and Joanna while Izzy and Jennifer were on the lookout. “Joanna, can you transform to guardian mode?” “I’ll try.” She pulled the G lever and the veritech slowly transformed itself. “Now I want you to take Anthony to the drop zone and stay there.” “Yes sir.” Joanna picked up Anthony with the Guardian’s hand and fled towards the Drop zone. “Now let’s move on to help Hiro and his gang.” They switched to guardian mode and sped towards Hiro’s location.  
Up to this point, most of the Wolf Squadron pilots were wiped out by the MPA’s. They were not far off from their destiny when they caught up with the Destroid Units. They were literally being torn apart by the turrets assembled on the street as their defense weapon. Hiro and some of the Destroid pilots survived the attack but they’re being pinned down by the turrets. 
Jack’s group switched to battloid mode and hid for covers. “Hiro, hold on, we’re coming!” “Jack, just leave us. Get Zeraal!” Jack tried to use his sniper mode but he couldn’t. Everytime he tries to take a peak, the turrets will instantly aim for him. 
There’s no way for them to approach as the turrets were firing endlessly. Jennifer looked at the photo of her husband and recalled his final act of bravery. She saw one of the scout pods on top of one of the rubbles. She broke the legs and dragged it with her. She slowly peak the pod’s head from the wall and the turrets blew it. “I’ve got an idea.” She grabbed another dead battle pod and dragged it to her position. “When I give you the signal, shoot the turrets.” Jack gave her a disagree look. “Now Jenny, let’s not get suicidal now….” He as immediately interrupted by Jennifer. “Hiro needs us.” She lifted the pods in front of her as a shield and stepped out of her cover. The turrets were firing at her violently. Some of it managed to get through to her. Jack and Izzy wasted no time and fired their gun pods towards the turrets as Jennifer’s battloid collapsed. 
After he made sure that the turrets were disarmed. He went on to check on Hiro’s unit. “Now we have a clear path to the carrier. Good work Jenny.” When he looked back, he saw Izzy’s battloid was kneeling next to Jennifer’s battloid which is lying flat on its back. He moved the pods from her and switched to her channel to check up on her. “Jenny, what’s your status?” Her image came on their tech channels but it was a bit scrambled. She was in a bloody mess but she managed to smile for them. “I’m alright. Go get Zeraal. Make him pay.” She let out her last breath and faded away. Izzy stood up and reloaded her gun pod. Jack turned to Hiro and nodded. “Izzy, take Hiro and his crew to the drop zone then meet me at the carrier’s entrance.” “Got it jack.” She switched to guardian mode and picked the Destroid pilots up before leaving for the drop zone. Azzedy boosted his way towards the carrier to wait for Izzy. 
After dropping Hiro and his crew in the drop zone, she was about to head towards the carrier when she saw most of the city disappeared along with the carrier. She switched her tech channel to Jack’s but couldn’t get any signal. “Control, this is Wolf 2, I’ve lost contact with Wolf leader. There were only five survivors from Hiro’s group while only three of the Wolf Squadron survived including me. The rest were totally wiped out.” “Wolf 2, we’ve located Wolf Leader’s location. He was caught with the carrier’s space fold.” Izzy was shocked with what she had heard. “We can’t contact him but we still had his signal on our scanners. I’ve dispatched a Sea Sergeant to pick up the survivors. Good Job. You may return to base.” She felt heavy hearted but she had to obey the order as she is the acting squad leader at the moment.  
After the survivors had boarded the Sea Sergeants, the Veritechs switched to fighter mode before escorting the chopper towards Base 6. When they had landed on the airfield, the crewman greeted them along with the rest of the Cougar and the Viper squadron. They were cheering and congratulating one another when one of them ordered an attention. As they stood at attention, Captain Chase approached the pilots and congratulated them. “You’ve showed the enemy why we’re the earth’s finest. And I thank you all for your brave efforts. Carry on.” As they all cheered for the Captain’s speech, Izzy ran towards her. “Captain, any word from Jack?” Chase turned to her and gave her a disappointed look while holding her tears. “Lieutenant, we’ve lost contact with him a few minutes ago. His last coordinates was somewhere near the rings of Saturn. He wasn’t even wearing his space gear. I’m sorry Izzy.” Izzy wiped the tears away from her face and gave Chase a salute. Chase gave her a hug as everyone else continued to celebrate their victory.
