Fanfic: Lisa was on the bridge, humming and smiling. The girls were amused with her act. She knew that this would be the day she and Rick will make up with each other. She was going through her usual routine with Sammy on flight controls when she was paged by the Admiral to see him in the SDF-1’s bridge.  
Moments later, she reported herself in. “Captain Hayes, do you know that we still need to find the home world of the Robotech Masters?” She nodded as the Admiral stood up and looked outside the window. “I would like you to be in charge of the SDF-2 to take on this mission and see to it that it succeeds.” Lisa was a shock for what she had heard. “Admiral, I’m sorry, I can’t.” The Admiral gave her a serious look. “You’ve always wanted to command your own ship don’t you? Now don’t tell me you can’t just because of your relationship with Captain Hunter.” She blushed and looked at the floor. “I guess you’re right Admiral.” “Of course I’m right.” 
Rick was at home thinking on how to fix his relationship with Lisa. He knew he shouldn’t have exploded to her yesterday even though what she did is wrong. Minmei was in the kitchen cleaning up the plates and glasses after their lunch. She came into the living room where Rick was sitting. “Rick, what were you thinking?” He smiled at her and let out another sigh. “I don’t know Minmei. I just don’t know how I’m going to make things right with Lisa.” She sat next to him and held his arm into hers. “Rick, maybe you should just let her cool off first.”  
“I’m sorry Rick. I think it’s my fault. Maybe she heard a rumor that we’re back together and I’m staying here with you.” She added. Rick looked at her and smiled. “Minmei, I’m still thankful that you’ve understood my relationship with Lisa.” “Of course, that’s what a little sister is for.” They laughed together until they heard the door bell. Minmei got up and opened the door and saw Lisa on the doorway. Lisa was on the verge of breaking into pieces. Minmei gave her a smile and invited her in. “That’s ok Minmei. I’m just here to tell Rick something.” 
Rick walked towards the door and asked Minmei who is it but was shocked to see the answer. “Lisa? Why don’t you come in for a minute.” “That’s alright Rick. I’ve just received an order from the Admiral saying that I’m officially commanding the SDF-2. Isn’t it wonderful? I mean a command of my own.” Minmei gave her a smile while leaning against the door. “Wow, that’s great Lisa.”  
Lisa returned her smile and looked at Rick’s eyes. “He also ordered me to lead the expeditionary force to search for the home world of the Robotech Masters.” Rick’s eyes grew wider when he heard that. “When are you leaving?” “Tomorrow I guess. The ship and its crew are ready and I’m really looking forward to it. And now Rick, I’ve something that I should’ve done days ago. I love you Rick. I always have and I always will. I’m sorry for not forgiving you any sooner. Please Minmei, take good care of him for me.” Minmei was about to grab her hand but she stepped back.  
“Lisa, it’s not what you think….” “Goodbye for now. My crew’s waiting for me.” As she saluted and ran towards the base, Minmei scolded Rick for being numb. “Why didn’t you tell her? You’ll lose her for good if you don’t run after her right now.” Rick was about to run after her when the city was being bombed by Khyron’s battlecruiser. 
He got up and made sure that Minmei’s ok before he ordered her to run for the shelter. He was running towards the base when he saw a person was lying on the road side. “Oh no, Lisa!” He approached her and helped her up. “Lisa, are you alright?” She was trying to fix her view when she saw Rick’s face right in front of hers. “Rick, is that really you? What happened?” “The city is under attack. We must get to the base now.” She agreed to him as they ran towards base.  
Rick ran to the locker room before getting into his Skull one on the airfield while Lisa was already in the bridge of the SDF-2 giving out orders to all veritech fighters and destroid units. 
Rick’s Skull one was airborne and so were the rest of the Skull squadron. They were engaging the battle cruiser when they heard the SDF-2 suffered a direct hit. Rick was concerned and tried to get a confirmation on it. “Control, this is Skull leader. Is there anyone there? SDF-2 do you read please anyone answer me?” When he still got no respond he switched to Battloid mode and gave the battle cruiser a close encounter battle. Max switched to battloid as well and joined his friend while Miriya went on to settle her business with Azonia.  
While they were battling, suddenly Rick saw Lisa’s face on the tech channel. “Hei, you’ve made it!” “Rick, we’re about to fire the SDF-1’s main guns so I’d suggest you get your people out of there.” Rick turned his tech channel to every single pilot in the air and informed them of the situation.  
“This is Skull leader calling battle group. Evacuate the area now. The SDF-1 is about to fire their main guns.” The fighters fled off the area as Claudia fired the main gun and managed to damage half of the cruiser. Azonia saw it and was caught off guard when Miriya aimed her gun pod directly to Azonia’s head. When Azonia turned her attention to Miriya, she saw the barrel of the gun pod was right in front of her face. Miriya closed her eyes and pulled the trigger and ended their battle for good. 
Khyron was badly injured in the cruiser saw the demised of Azonia. He manually steered the cruiser in a collision course with the SDF-1. The Destroid units were firing the cruiser with everything they’ve got but it just kept on coming towards them. It went right through the SDF-1 and the SDF-2 before destroying itself upon impact. Rick saw what had happened but he was helpless to do anything about it. He ordered the Skull squadron to fly low enough near the wreckage to see if there were any survivors.  
He then saw an object landed on the shore of the lake. “That looks like an escape pod. Max, I’m going down to check it out while you head the rest to assist the search and rescue team.” “Sure thing Rick. Let me know if there’s anything.” He switched to guardian mode before setting it down next to the escape pod. When he got off his fighter, he saw Lisa was climbing out of the pod. He ran towards her and scooped her into his arms. 
Lisa was happy that she was able to see him. Then she looked at the wreckage and her smile faded. “Admiral, the girls, and Claudia couldn’t make it.” Rick was embracing her tightly when he saw Minmei was running towards them. He released Lisa as Minmei approached them. Rick gave Lisa a smile before he started his explanation. “Lisa, there’s something I have to tell you. Minmei and I never got together again. About the story with the letter, she admitted that she was confused and she stayed at my place because she needed a break from the media.” “That’s right Lisa. Rick’s like a brother to me. He had helped me through a lot of things. I hope you understand. Rick’s a nice man but sometimes he likes to cause a heart ache.” Rick messed her hair as they laughed together. 
Lisa gave him an apologetic look. “I’m sorry Rick for not giving you any chance to explain.” “That’s ok Lisa.” Lisa turned her attention to Minmei once again and offered her hand. “I’m sorry for giving you such a hard time Minmei.” “Oh that’s alright Lisa, I’ll be able to concentrate on my career now that I know that Rick’s in good hands now. Take care of him for me Lisa.” Lisa nodded as she left them heading towards the shelter to see her family.  
Lisa looked at the wreckage once again. “What about my mission?” “You mean our mission. We’ll build an SDF-3 and together we will carry out the expeditionary mission.” While they were having their moments, they looked up and saw the Sterlings flew past them. “And I’m sure those two will help us.” He added. They hugged each other while watching the wreckage. They know that this is just the beginning and they’ll take on the upcoming challenges as long they’re together.
