Fanfic: In Macross City, everyone was preparing to celebrate their first Christmas since they’ve returned to earth. Everything was quiet until a Protoculture factory was being raided by Khyron and his minions. Lisa was on the bridge of the SDF-2, thinking about her relationship with Rick and Minmei’s sudden return into Rick’s life. She thought that the triangle had ended years ago. Her thought was interrupted by Sammy. 
“Captain Hayes, our Protoculture factory reported that they’re being attacked by Zentreadi forces.” She knew what she was about to do will give an even greater damage to her relationship with Rick. “Sammy, send out Lieutenant Commander Max Sterling to lead the Skull Squadron to defend the factory.” “But what wrong with Captain Hunter? Isn’t he supposed to lead the Skull Squadron?” “No Sammy. He’s not feeling well today.” Kim elbowed her arm and Sammy gave her a blank stare. “What?” Kim showed her finger signaling to keep her voice down. “They may have another issues going on so keep the questions regarding Rick to yourself ok?” Sammy nodded and continued to relay the flight orders to the Skull Squadron. 
Rick was thinking about how to make up his relationship with Lisa. Minmei went to the grocery store to get some items to cook for their Christmas dinner. He decided to call Max and ask him some pointers. He called the Sterling’s home but Jean came up on the other end. “Hi Jean. Where’s Max?” “Didn’t you hear? They were scrambled because there’s an attack on the Protoculture factory.” “When? How come I wasn’t informed?” “This morning. Rick..” Rick hung up the phone and ran towards the base and changed into his flight suit before taking his Skull One to the skies. 
Up on the bridge of the SDF-2, Sammy was shock to see Rick on the tech channel. “Control, this is Skull Leader requesting location coordinates.” Kim gave Sammy an ‘I told you’ look. “Skull Leader, head towards Holland 664.” Rick punched the after burners towards the location. When Lisa saw his face on the tech channel, she saw the different side of Rick. The side she had never seen before. The sight of pure anger.  
As soon as he reached the location, Max was relief to see their squad leader managed to join them. “Alright Max, I’ll take it from here.” “Roger that boss.” “Max, you and Miriya take out those pods. I’ll defend the protoculture chamber.” He dove into the factory and switched into battloid mode just in time before he reached the ground.  
Miriya just took out another fighter when she crossed path with her one time old nemesis and friend Azonia. “Well Azonia, let’s finish this once and for all now shall we?” She switched to battloid mode and they continued where they left off.  
Khyron ordered his minions to capture the protoculture chamber and take it back with them. After he had seized the chamber, Khyron ordered his forces to retreat. Rick was destroying the pods outside the factory when he saw Khyron and his minions came out from the roof of the factory carrying the protoculture chamber. Rick switched to his sniper mode to take aim but Khyron detonated a few explosives he scattered around the city before the attack.  
Rick had to abandon his enemies to rescue the civilians and help to put out the fire. Miriya was about to intercept Azonia when Rick came into her tech channel. “Miriya, I need you and Max to help me to put out the fire and rescue the civilians.” Miriya clenched her teeth but she had to obey the order. “Roger Rick.” She landed her battloid in the city and rescued the people who were trapped in the burning buildings then was later joined by Max. “Control, this is Skull leader requesting immediate assistance from any available veritech squadron to be armed with fire retardant bombs for a rescue mission. Do you copy?” Sammy came into his tech channel telling him that the message had been relayed and also informed that his sets of fire retardant bombs are waiting for him on the airfield. Rick returned to base to replace his arsenals before taking off and flew towards the city. 
The rescue mission continued all the way to the night. As soon as night falls, the fire was put out and the civilians were placed temporarily in a church for the night. The pilots returned to the base once everything was settled. As soon as they’ve landed, Rick went to the locker room to change into his uniform before heading towards the bridge to have a word with Sammy. Max saw the looks on his friend’s face and shook his head because he felt sorry for him.  
On the SDF-2’s bridge, Lisa was still on her command post turned her head when she heard the door slid opened. She was shocked to see Rick storming in passed her by and went towards Sammy’s station and she knew she had involved the innocent Sammy in her personal problems. 
Moments later, he smiled at Sammy and turned his head towards Lisa before heading towards her. At that point, she knew it was her mistake. He stood in front of her and gave her a serious look. “Why did you lie to them Lisa? It is my duty to protect this city and you’ve nearly jeopardized the lives of my squadron. For your information, when it comes to my duty, I’ll make sure that the lives of my crew, my plane comes first! I thought you were a professional. But all I can see is a selfish officer who thinks she’s right all the time.” Lisa couldn’t find a word to explain to him as she had never thought of Rick can be so cold. “If there’s nothing else captain, I’ll be leaving now.” He saluted harshly and left the bridge. 
Lisa dropped herself to her seat and sighed heavily. Vanessa came from behind and patted her shoulder. “Captain Hayes, I must say that it wasn’t a nice thing you did to Captain Hunter.” Lisa gave her a sympathetic look and let out another sigh. “Now that I know that I’ve been selfish. I didn’t give him a chance to tell me his side of the story. I was so jealous because I couldn’t afford to lose him ever again.” Sammy and Kim sat by her sides and each held her hand. Sammy looked at her and gave her an assuring smile. “Why don’t you go and tell him that you’re sorry?” How can I face him after what he had told me today? I’m sure he already hates me.” Kim stood up and put her hand on her waist. 
“Captain Hayes, you haven’t lost him yet. If you don’t tell him you’re sorry, then I’m sorry to say that he will be gone from your life for good.” Vanessa and Sammy held Kim’s mouth and then turned silent when they saw Lisa stood up and left the bridge. 
Sammy turned to Kim and pinched her cheek. “You and your heroism. Look at what you’ve done. You’ve just made things worse.” Kim looked to the floor and played with her fingers. “I’m sorry. It’s just that I’m feeling bad for Rick.” 
Lisa was on her way back to her place thinking about what Kim had said and what she had done today. When she reached home, she dropped herself on her bed and made up her mind. “I know. I’ll talk to him tomorrow.” She took a shower and cooked herself some dinner before she tucked herself in. She just can’t wait till tomorrow. A hope grew in her heart.
