INTRO...
Everyone on the SDF-1 was excited about the wedding between the two aces-- Max and Miriya!
Even people who hated the Zentraedi were happy for them for no one could resist a love story with a happy ending.
------------------------
"There you go, all done!" Lisa said as she pulled the veil over Miriya's head and led her to a full length mirror.
"Is that me?" Miriya Parino asked with a confused look on her face.
She was still in shock over everything that had happened to her since Max had first pressed his lips to hers in the park. Therefore she took another look at herself in the mirror again just to make sure the woman she saw in the mirror was really her.
Apart from her long shinny green hair, she didn't look in the least like herself. The tight fitting top pushed up her breasts so that they swelled invitingly over the décolletage of her wedding gown while the wide, swaying hoop emphasized the smallness of her waist.
Who would have thought I could be this beautiful?
She certainly never thought of it when she was the Zentraedi's ace of ace pilots. Then the only thing that had mattered was how many enemies she could kill to remain the best of the best.
She knew everything happening to her now was due to Maximilian and this strange feeling he had called "love".
She had never had a mate, partner or friend before and knowing Maximilian was the ONE, made her feel things she couldn't explain. She had never had any friends before either. Now she had Lisa, Claudia, Rick and even the Terrible Trio whom she could go to visit or talk to about human customs or traditions she did not understand.
But Maximilian was still the best of all of them!
She had never known anyone as kind, patient and gentle as he. Even when she had burned every pot and pan he'd owned he hadn't yelled or disciplined her. He had only laughed and pressed his lips to her more. She really liked pressing her lips to his too and they have been doing a lot of that; in fact every chance they got between him going into battles, routine patrols and lately her training to become a VT pilot.
She did not like the though of killing her own kind but if it means protecting Maximilian and the life she had found with him then she would.
"Commander, er... I mean Lisa; do you think Maximilian would recognize me in this dress? I've never worn anything so nice before. I'm not sure if he'll like it."
Lisa's green eyes sparkled with amusement. "Miriya, that's the whole purpose. You're supposed to wow him and everyone else into speechlessness. Don't worry he'll love it."
"Lisa, are you scared?" Miriya asked noncommittally.
"Scared?" Lisa asked, confused.
"Yes, like there's something here," Miriya pointed to her stomach. "I've tried not to think about it but I can't get rid of it. I only felt like this once. It was when I was undergoing the test to become Captain of the Quadranos."
Lisa laughed this time. "It's perfectly normal for you to feel nervous, Miriya. Today is the biggest day of your life; you're marrying the man you love and will be pledging the rest of your life to him in sickness or in health till death do you part. It's natural to feel nervous, anxious, excited and happy."
“You mean everybody feels like this when they’re going to get married?” Miriya asked trying very hard to understand.
“Yes, at least every bride I know off,” Lisa said with a reassuring smiled and Miriya relaxed a bit.
"How are we doing?" a voice said from behind them.
Lisa and Miriya turned to see Claudia closing the door behind her.
Lisa knew how happy Claudia had been these past few days for Roy was finally released from the hospital and staying with her. She had never seen her friend who was like an elder sister to her, lovelier or more alive than now.
"Claudia, you're practically glowing!" Lisa exclaimed playfully. "What's going on?"
"Nothing a little loving can't cure, Lisa, my love," Claudia playfully replied back, giving Lisa a very happy satisfied look.
"Miriya," Claudia said as she stared at the beautiful ex-Zentraedi ace pilot, "you are absolutely breathtaking. You will make Max the envy of every man out there.”
She went over to Miriya and hugged her. “You and Max are so lucky to have found each other. I want to be the first to wish you both nothing but happiness and a very long life together. By the way, I just saw Max out there, fidgeting and very nervous. I have never seen him lose his cool before and he’s simply adorable!"
"I should go and see him," Miriya said with a worried look and walked briskly to the door. Both Lisa and Claudia jumped after her.
"No! Miriya," Claudia said.
"The bride is not supposed to see the groom before the ceremony," Lisa explained. "It's bad luck."
Miriya stopped to ponder this new information and was going to asked Lisa to explain further when the door opened again, and the Terrible Trio blew in.
They exclaimed over Miriya's dress and each in turn began telling her about their own dreamed wedding. Lisa and Claudia breathed a sigh of relief and smiled at each other.
"You know, I just found out from Roy today that Rick's a leg man," Claudia whispered. "And judging by that dress, I guess you've already known that, you shameless hussy!"
------------------
Rick smiled as Max guided Miriya onto the dance floor for their first dance together as man and wife. The song Max had spent two days dragging him all over Macross to find was on.
It was an old song, one he hadn't heard before and he tuned in now to listen to the words.
When the visions around you
Bring tears to your eyes
And all that surround you
Are secrets and lies
I'll be your strength
I'll give you hope
Keeping your faith when it's gone
The one you should call
Was standing here all along
And I will take you in my arms
And hold you right where you belong
'Til the day my life is through
This I promise you
This I promise you
I've loved you forever
In lifetimes before
And I promise you never
Will you hurt anymore
I give you my word
I give you my heart
This is a battle we've won
And with this vow
Forever has now begun...
Now he understood why Max had chosen this song as his and Miriya's wedding song. It fitted them so well and as he watched them, he couldn't help it but be moved by their love as well as their faith in each other.
Maybe Max was right after all. There's nothing love can't overcome. I mean, just look at them. Who would have dreamed that they would ever met let alone fall in love?
Looking around he saw Roy and Claudia; his big brother was holding his fiancée in his arms and they were swaying to the music even as they watched Max and Miriya danced. They look very happy together and he was happy for them for he knew nobody deserved love more than them.
It was only a matter of time before Roy would have to be back on duty again but until then he wanted his big brother to enjoy his time with Claudia. Then he noticed that everybody was moving onto the dance floor joining Max and Miriya, even Minmei and Kyle.
Minmei...
She had come by to say 'hi' to him earlier before the ceremony and to thank him for staying with her that day in the Star Bowl amphitheater. He had wanted to talk to her some more, to let her know that he would always be there for her if she need him for they were friends. But she had been pulled away by Kyle before he could even say to two words to her.
--------------------------
Lisa...
He wondered where she was and debated with himself if he should ask her to dance. He knew she was thinking about Riber again. During the ceremony he could have swore she was crying. There was a faraway look in her eyes that had bothered him.
How could she not think about him, especially today of all days? If he hadn't died, she would have had her own wedding day by now, much like this one.
That thought gave him a sudden pause to consider the consequences if Riber had actually lived and he quickly shook his head, banishing the though.
No need to borrow trouble where there is none, Hunter. Riber's gone. I think its time to show Lisa that my interest in her was always more than just a curiosity.
Lisa had stunned him again today. As the maid of honor, he knew she would have to wear something formal and nice but he hadn't expected her to wear something so fashionably sexy and hot. The teal-green color was perfect on her. It brought out the glow of her cream-colored skin to perfection.
But he especially liked the high side split on her dress for it gave him a peek at her nice long legs every time she moved. He once drooled over Miriya’s legs but after tonight, he knew he would be dreaming about Lisa’s legs for a long time.
He was glad too that she hadn't curled her hair into her usually tight curls. She had simply let the thick, shinny mass fall, loose and free and the effect was stunning. He saw a lot of officers and pilots especially the males staring at her with shock then genuine interest earlier when she had walked gracefully down the isle-- her head held high and her green eyes blazing with life and expectations.
He hoped none of them had already beaten him to monopolizing her time. Turning around, he saw her. She was behind him all along while he had been scanning the dance floor for her.
Their eyes met and Rick felt his soul spinning to meet hers.
Her eyes were deep and glowing as they held his and he saw all that he had ever yearned for in a woman in her. He hadn't intended for this to happen but now that it was, he didn’t want it to stop. He put his hand on her neck and felt her pulse throbbing beneath his fingers. Her skin was smooth, silky and warm. Slowly he drew her toward him.
He felt as if they were the only two people in the room.
"May I have this dance?"
She nodded and he held her hand as they moved to the dance floor. They remained on the edge, the outer circle of the group and slowly they began to move to the music. Their bodies matched and molded together to a perfect fit.
"I thought you'd never asked," she whispered and laid her head on his shoulder. He had taken his jacket off and she could feel the fabric of his shirt as well as the heat from his skin. She told herself to relax and just enjoy the moment.
Was he falling in love with me? I hoped so for I don't know how long I can hide my love for him anymore.
"I love your hair like this, Lisa. It's so beautiful, long and silky. I've never seen you lovelier," he quietly said to her all the while trying not to kiss her.
His voice was low and mesmerizing when he spoke again. "You smell so good. You drive me to distraction, Lisa. I want this moment to never end. I want us to go on forever just like this."
"Rick, don't lie to me. Don't say things I want to hear in order to have your way with me."
He stopped dancing and holding her elbow, he guided her out of the banquet room and into a secluded hallway, away from the noise and prying eyes.
"What's that supposed to mean," he said once they were alone, his voice hard and flat.
"I don't know!” she cried.
“You confuse me, Rick. You make me consider things I never want to think about. Maybe we should just set aside two days to have wild, uninterrupted sex," she said furiously. "Maybe that way we'd get whatever it is we feel for each other out of our systems and be able to move on with the rest of our lives!"
His mouth quirked into an amused smile, "isn't that supposed to be my line?"
"Why?" she demanded, "because you're the man? I'm just as aware of what's going on between us as you are, Rick. Am I supposed to pretend I haven't noticed that we practically ignite whenever we touch?"
"Rick..."
"Shut up," he said before he pulled her close to him and kissed her.
They both tasted desperation and anger on each other's lips. When they broke apart, his eyes blazed blue into hers. "There's more than lust, Lisa!"
Immediately, Lisa pushed him away from her then as if deciding it was either now or never, she placed both of her hand on his cheeks, holding his face close to hers so that he could read what was in her eyes as well as hear it.
"I love you, Rick Hunter."
"Lisa! Rick!" Claudia's voice came from behind them and she proceeded to talk as if she hadn't seen anything. "It's picture time! Or have you two forgotten that you're the maid of honor and best man?"
"I'm shocked at you two," she continued but her eyes were full of mischief and laughter now. "Necking out in dark hallways like horny teenagers, what will people say?"
Lisa blushed deeply while Rick tried not to laugh at the image Claudia had just painted for them. Shaking her head like a shocked parent, Claudia grabbed Lisa's arm and pulled her away with her.
Stunned and humbled, Rick could only stare at the two women, especially the one in a sexy, form fitting dress who had just told him that she loved him.
----------------
‘Who is she?’ Minmei wondered.
She knew they were lovers by the intimate way they held each other-- possessively, passionately but controlled and at eased in each other's arms.
Why can't I put a name to her? When did Rick meet her? How come he's never told me about her? I though I was the love of his life?
Watching them, she had felt a swift pang of anger, jealousy and pain. For Rick had never held her like that before in all the times that they've been seeing each other off and on in the past two years.
Rick... How she missed him.
She thought Kyle was the perfect man for her but now she's not so sure anymore and the more she remembered Rick, their past dates and especially those two weeks they had spent together under the belly of the SDF-1; she could cry for she knew she had made a big mistake in not taking him seriously.
Then suddenly she saw Rick and the woman going out of the banquet room and her heart skipped a beat.
It's not like him to ignore me. Who is she?!
"Kyle, do you know who the woman is that Rick was dancing with?" she asked prettily and batted her long eye lashes at him as if her asking him this question was as normal as people asking about the weather.
Kyle didn't even try; he burst out laughing for she was so transparent in her possessiveness and petty jealousy that it was not even funny. Since his release from the hospital, he and Minmei have become lovers. Why she had suddenly changed and let him touch her was still a mystery to him but he wasn't going to complain.
She was finally his!
He knew as long as he could keep her in the style she was accustomed to, she'll never leave him. He was not going to lie to himself by believing that she loved him for he knew her too well. She could never love anybody but herself and nothing was more important to her than singing and being the star of the show.
Softly as if in a caress, he told her who the mystery woman was. He smiled smugly as he watched her eyes darken with envy, confusion and then pain.
Minmei, you're such a silly child... Your soldier boy is never coming back to you; he's in love with his Commander. You have no one else now but me!
"Come, let's get out of here," he said and pulled her with him as they leave the dance floor.
"But... but Kyle, we can't go yet. The bride and groom haven't even left and... I want to catch the bridal bouquet," Minmei said, trying desperately to reason with Kyle without throwing a scene.
Kyle stopped and with one finger, lifted her chin up so she would be looking into his eyes to understand that he was serious.
"How many times do I have to tell you, my pet, we're celebrities; it's expected of us to arrive late and leave early. You're a star, Minmei; act like one."
With that he put his hand on the back of her waist and forcefully guided her out the room.
Rick...
...Three Days Later…
"Father, you don't understand," Lisa said, trying to control the anger in her voice.
"I will not leave the SDF-1! I'm an officer in the RDF and the First Officer on this ship, if you haven’t noticed!” She could feel her voice rising now and she tried to calm herself down but failed.
"I will not abandon my post just because my father is an Admiral and can get me a transfer. I told you this already the last time we talked and I will tell you again, now. No!"
"Lisa, I want you here with me!" The Admiral's voice was hard and desperate. "Don't you understand, the Grand Cannon will be used to show the aliens that we're not afraid of them; I do not want you in the middle of the cross fire."
She gave a short laughed for she knew the Grand Cannon probably couldn't wipe out a small division of Battlepods, much less one of the Zentraedi mother ship!
What's the use of information if you're not going to use it? How could her father be so stubborn and blind!
Once again she tried to explain the situation to her father."Yes they are a race bred and trained for nothing but war. However within a few weeks of being exposed to our culture and way of life, some of them have defected to us already. You've seen the live coverage of Max and Miriya's wedding."
Lisa continued excitedly, "the Zentraedi fleet that had been chasing us all this time had even agreed for a cease-fire. At this very moment an emissary is on his way to us to talk peace. Imagine father, the possibilities..."
The admiral's eyes bored into Lisa's from the screen. "Don't be so naïve, Lisa! You know better than anyone that the only thing a warlike power understands is a demonstration of greater power!"
She opened her mouth to speak, but her father silenced her with a stern frown. "No, Lisa! The decision has already been made. There's nothing more to discuss on that subject."
She stood mutely but her hands clutched into fists at her side. "I understand, Admiral."
She gave him a salute and stared at him, memorizing him to memory for she knew this might very well be the last time she'll see him again in this lifetime.
"Father, there's one last thing... besides my duty and obligations; there's also a pilot that's keeping me here. I thought you should know," she said quietly.
"What's his name?" Admiral Donald Hayes inquired after a long pause and looking at him she could see the interest in his eyes.
"Rick, Lieutenant Rick Hunter, father and I love him very much. I'm sorry. I hope you'll understand."
"Is he anything like Riber?" he asked, shocking Lisa speechless.
"What? I don't understand..."
"Riber was not the right man for you, Lisa," Admiral Hayes said and took a deep breath. "You didn't think I knew about him but I did. You're my daughter, Lisa! You mean the world to me, how could I not know? Why do you think I'm so adamant now about getting you off that flying-tin-can?"
"My only regret was that, I found out too late and it's a good thing he left for Mars and died or I would have him court martial! And don't look at me like that, young lady. You might have your mother's beauty, talent and grace but in your heart and soul, you're me!"
"Riber would have bored you to death in less than two weeks if you weren't so young and starved for attention. He was a selfish coward, Lisa. He had no loyalty, sense of responsibility or common sense! I blame no one for what happened to you but me. I was so caught up in my own grief that I forgot about you and by the time I realized it, it was too late."
"Let's not talk about Riber! He's dead; father let him rest in peace. He has nothing to do with my relationship with Rick now or with you," Lisa demanded, her voice sounding raw.
Suddenly her name was called on the PA:
--- Commander Hayes please report to the HQ Special Sessions chamber immediately! ---
"I have to go, Father... I'm... I'm sorry but you have my answer." Lisa refused to give in to the need to cry. She swallowed the sobs that rose, wiped her eyes, and belittled herself for her weakness. Reaching for the switched, she turned it off.
Good-bye, father. I love you.
She would not give into panic, taking a deep breath; she brought her emotions to order and walked out of the Special Communication's room.
In the hall, Lisa saw Rick standing there, waiting for her. For a moment they looked into each other's eyes and they stared at each other as if they haven't seen each other in years.
"Claudia told me," he managed to say and the spell broke.
She did not reply to his comment and he could see that she had been crying. There was a quality to her that Rick found moving; a vulnerability that went hand in hand with the fierce determination to hold her own against all the odds.
He wanted to know what happened between her and her father but decided not to ask until she was ready to tell him. Since the wedding, she had been ignoring him too and he wanted to know why.
She saw the questions in his eyes. She knew what he wanted.
I can't deal with this right now; not now.
"Rick, can we talk later, please?" Her green eyes pleaded with his blue ones and after a few minutes, she saw acceptance slowly creeping into then.
She gave him a reassuring smile and in silence, they both turned and walked together, side by side down the hall toward the HQ Special Sessions chamber.
"Aha! You're the male and female hostages from Dolza's flagship, aren't you? The ones who demonstrated the kiss to us," Exedore said excitedly as soon as Rick and Lisa walked into the room.
"Where is the other one, the big one whose brain and metabolism was a bit slow?" Not waiting for an answer he continued.
"Tell me, how did you and the others managed to escape for I never thought to see either one of you again? Do you two posse powers like the long black haired-man or the female whose voice makes us all feel weird and powerless to do anything but listen to her?"
Rick and Lisa looked around the room, seeing the usual brass there with their stern looks and disapproving facial expressions and then to each other for they have no idea what this excited little man was talking about.
"Commander, Lieutenant, please take a seat. We're still waiting for the others to arrive. Everything will be resolved and explained, am I right, Emissary?" Gloval asked looking at the frail-looking little man who was back to drinking his orange juice.
--------------
Later the evening in Claudia's quarter, Roy Fokker sat on her sofa, silent and lost in thought, strumming her guitar-- the one he had given to her four Christmas ago and promised to play it for her only!
His strumming was soft, sad and slow.
Sitting across from him, she listened to his playing and stared at his hands and fingers; her heart constricted in pain and love.
How strong and rough they look yet so gentle and steady when he holds her. How she loved his hands and his long sure fingers.
She knew when he was in this mood, he was thinking and usually it was thoughts she did not like. But would have to accept for she loved him. He was her life, her dream and her world.
"Claud, I'm going back on duty. I talked to Captain Gloval earlier today about it and he agreed. I don't know what difference I will make against five million ships but I have to try," he said as he laid the guitar aside and walked to her.
He kneeled down in front of her and took both of her hands into his.
"I promised you, Claudia, that this battle will be my last. You and I have given the service so much of our lives already... we almost lost each other. I will not throw away this second chance that was given to me."
Looking deep into her unshed tear eyes, he continued.
"Remember when I told you that before living with the Hunters, I was always in and out of foster homes? Well, there was this one old lady who I stayed with for about six months and every night she would sit by my bed and read the Bible to me. I hated the Bible and God back then and I hated her too, but there's a verse in it that I'll never forget:
There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven:
a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,
a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,
a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,
a time to scatter stones and at time to gather them,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain,
a time to search and a time to give up,
a time to keep and a time to throw away,
a time to tear and a time to mend,
a time to be silent and a time to speak,
a time to love and a time to hate,
a time for war and a time for peace.
"It's time for us, Claudia. If we don’t take it now there may never be another! Will you come with me when I leave the service after this battle, this last battle?"
"Roy Fokker," she said in between tears, "I love you, and yes I will follow you where ever you go. There isn't anything in this world we can't do together."
He pulled her to him and hugged her tightly. Gently he kissed her lips and felt them part beneath his. Claudia's kisses were like summer wine. She was made for him. He had known a great number of women in his life but she was the only one he wanted to spend the rest of his life with. The only one he kept coming back to.
"Come; let's go to bed and..." The sentence hung suggestively, while he kissed her hungrily once more, leaving no doubt in her mind as to what he planned to do.
-------------------------
It was almost midnight before Lisa could leave the bridge. Her shift had ended five hours ago but she could not leave, for there were so many things that needed her attention when preparing for a war.
We have to win... we just have to! I refused to believe that this is it for the human race. It can't be...
So deep in thoughts she didn't see Rick waiting for her outside of her quarters until she was almost upon him.
Looking at each other, they greeted each other with tired smiles and walked into her quarters together as the door closed behind them.
"Tea?" she asked as she kicked her heels off and began walking towards her kitchen.
Rick stopped her. "I'll get it if you'll tell me where you keep them."
"Okay. Right side cabinet above the sink," she said and went to sit down on her loveseat. She was tired and exhausted but her mind would not rest, it jumped from one worry to another-- from her father to Rick to the up coming battle to Karl, and then back to Rick again.
Rick, always back to Rick...
Lisa closed her eyes, fighting the sadness that was spreading inside her. She had told him that she loved him but he had not expressed one word of love or affection towards her all this time. Worse, she had witness the look of longing he had given Minmei when she and Kyle had come into the conference room. She even saw him lagging behind to speak to Minmei after the conference too.
She had been so heart broken that she had left quickly without waiting for him like she said she would. She wondered what had transpired between them and why was he here?
Why do you torture yourself this way? Why fight so hard for him when it's obvious who he still preferred after all this time? You will always be second best to her! Time to give up, Lisa...
"I'm sure Exedore was exaggerating the number of Dolza's fleet," Rick said, as he brought them their teas and sat down next to her.
Tears suddenly clogged her throat and she laid down her cup of tea on her coffee table.
"You know as well as I do that everything we heard in that room was true. Let's not kid ourselves, Rick. Earth, the SDF-1 and every living thing in this galaxy might not survive this battle."
Changing the topic, she said, "I told my father about you."
Her announcement caught him off guard and he spilled his tea on himself. They both reacted to it-- he cussed while she reached for napkins on her coffee table and tried to help him.
"I'm sorry, Lisa for being so clumsy," he said lamely.
"Don't worry about it. I'll get you another cup," she said as she got up to do so. But he caught her hand and stopped her from leaving.
"No. I don't want another cup. I want to talk to you. We have to talk, Lisa."
She nodded and sat back down.
She didn't need to see his eyes to feel the heat in them. She leaned over and curled against him, not wanting to look into his eyes when he tells her that he loved Minmei and would always love Minmei despite his growing attraction for her.
There was a clean scent to him, along with the tantalizing fragrance of his aftershave. Lisa burrowed her face into this neck, comforted knowing at least he was here with her, if only as a friend.
"I think I know why you've been ignoring me these past three days, Lisa. I'm over her," he didn't need to explain who "her" was for they both knew he was referring to Minmei.
Lisa wondered if it was possible that he was starting to feel for her what she was feeling for him. She was afraid to hope.
"I know now that she was just a friend, always a friend," he continued as if he'd been thinking and rehearsing this speech to her for awhile now. "It was I who took our friendship and connection for more than what it was. She and I are no longer the same people we were when we met. It would have never worked between us even if she did love me back because I'm in love with someone else-- you."
Emotions surged inside her.
"Rick, you don't know how long I've waited to hear you say those words to me. I don't know when I fell in love with you but I realized it the moment I heard your mayday over the tac net. I knew... I knew then that my life would be meaningless with out you."
Rick raised his hand to her chin, his thumb lifting her to look up at him, to meet him as he lowered his mouth onto hers for an achingly sweet kiss.
"I don't know when, I couldn't tell you, Lisa. But I just knew with each day that passed I wanted to be closer to you-- mind, body and soul; until all I could think about was you," he said while his eyes never left hers.
"I love you, Lisa Hayes. I love you and I don't want you to ever forget it; no matter what happens tomorrow, the next week or fifty years from now."
Lost in his gaze, in the overwhelming wonder of love, passion and need she saw shinning in his eyes for her she could only utter his name.
"Rick..."
He laced his fingers into her hair and felt it loosen to his touch. He bent and kissed her hair, then her forehead. Lisa lifted her face and joined her lips with his. The kiss swirled her into a world only she and Rick occupied. She wanted the kiss to last forever. She wanted to be in his arms like this until her dying days.
His heart was racing and he knew he was only torturing himself. He knew he had to leave for it was too soon. But his hands kept stroking her arms, then moving to her shoulders until he could feel the beating of her heart through her throat in his hands.
'Leave, now!' he told himself and slowly he backed away. Her creamy skin and heaving bosom beckoned him but he refused to think about it. Lisa Hayes was different from any woman he had ever made love to before; different, because she loved him with the same quality and steadiness he'd seen in Claudia's love for Roy.
She was the real deal and he was not worthy of her!
Time stood still as Lisa watched him study her with a far away look in his eyes.
"I'll see you tomorrow, Lisa," he finally said, his eyes dark and deep with emotions she couldn't understand. But what she does understand was that she loved him and he was going to leave her.
"No," she cried out.
"Lisa?"
"There may never be another time for us, Rick. Stay with me tonight and no matter what happens tomorrow, we'll face it together."
Rick stared at her. Steady and direct, her eyes rose to meet his. Truth shone there, as it had in her voice.
"Are you sure?"
Her answer was to pull him back to her again and began kissing him. She kissed him with such infinite seductive wooing, his thoughts scattered like leaves in the wind.
