Chapter 8

Rick spent the next twenty four hours making plans for his upcoming mission. About six month after he left the RDF a recruiter for the UEG Black Ops unit approached him. They wanted Rick to join there unit. He was a good pilot and there where several missions they had needed a pilot to do them. Rick reputation of an ace pilot was well known in the UEG. So when there Black Ops unit found that he left the RDF they hunted him down.

When Rick heard that he could have complete freedom in his off time, and did not needed to report to someone directly how signed up right away. It was not that he didn't like the service. It was all the regulation and the tidiness thing day in and day out. This was more of a challenge for Rick. That’s what he likes about it. They always had something for him just when he was starting to get board with what he was doing.

This time it was different. He had been content living with Lisa and his daughter. But he was still part of the Black Ops unit and when Lee called him he knew he had a mission. Rick just hoped Lisa would understand when he had to leave for a few days. He was thinking on how to break it to her. Rick knew that she could not find out about his real job.

It was getting time for Lisa to come home. Rick had started dinner while Grace was playing in the play pin in the dinning room. Rick heard the door open when Lisa come home. Rick put down what he was doing and went to greet her.

“Hello sweetie. How was your day?” Rick asked as he gave her a kiss on the cheek.

“It was alright. Where is Grace at?” Lisa said flatly.

“She is in her play pin in the kitchen. Are you ok something seams to be bugging you?”

“Everything is fine.” Lisa said in an angry tone.

For the past two day Lisa was being distant. She was leaving in the morning for her new assignment. Rick was also heading out on his mission. Neither one of them told each other about it. Rick wanted to bring up the fact that he would be gone for two days but the mood she was in he could not bring himself to make her madder.

Instead the two of them spent another night with out talking to each other. Lisa heart was breaking at Rick’s silence. She wanted to tell him so bad that she was leaving and it was over but it hurt too much to think about it. This was going to be the last night they where together, and she was going to take advantage of it.

Lisa put Grace to bed and then went into there room and put on the nightie that she bought for there wedding night. There was no need in waiting to wear it now. Being this was going to be the last night she spent with. Deep down she still loved Rick with all her heart and she was going to show him how much she loved him.

Rick was in the den working on the computer. He was reading an email from Lee. It was telling him that everything was ready and would see him in the morning. Rick heard Lisa coming down the hall and Rick deleted the message from his in box.

When Rick got up from the desk and turned around he was blown away by what he saw. Lisa was standing in the doorway of the den wearing a very thin black nightie. He could see the skin tone of her breasts under it. She looked like a goddess. Rick just stood there and admired her figure.

“My god you look incredible.” Rick finally said.

Lisa got the reaction that she wanted from Rick. She walked up to Rick and put her arms around his neck and kissed him long and passionately. There tongues intertwined and played in each of there mouths. Lisa started moaning with pleasure from the kiss.

When they came up for air Rick looked into Lisa emerald eye. There was the woman he was in love with. He was happy to see her back. Rick wrapped his arms around her waist and started kissing her again. Lisa accepted his advices with out hesitation. Rick’s hands started rooming all over Lisa body.

She moaned again with his touch. They stood in the den kissing and caressing for what seamed like a life time.

All the pain that Lisa had was gone when she was back in Rick’s arms. There was no other place that she wanted to be but right here. Yet she know it was not going to last. In the morning she was leaving to her new home. Rick quickly brought her out of her thoughts when he scooped her up in his arms and carried her into there room.

Rick gently laid Lisa on the bed and started kiss her from head to toe. Rick knew that he might not make it back from his mission and he wanted to savor every last inch of her. Rick came back up to her mouth and kissed her again. Lisa pulled off Rick’s shirt and ran her fingers threw his chest hair. She moved her hands down to his pants and started undoing them. Lisa could not wait anymore she had to have Rick and right now.

Rick sled his pants off the rest of the way. Then he went to kissing Lisa breast threw the nightie. Lisa moaned with pressure when he did this. With out even think she accepted Rick.

The rest of that night they made love several time. When Rick finally fell asleep Lisa watched him and quietly cried. It was the hardest thing that she had to do but there was no other choice but to leave. She would always love him, and no one would replace him in her heart.

The next morning Rick woke up alone. He got up and got dressed and went to get something to eat. He figured that Lisa went into work early and took Grace with her to drop her off at day care. This was fine. Rick saw a note on the fridge for him.

Rick,

Last night was wonderful. Thank you for everything you have done for me.

I will not be ck for a while I have to go to the factory for an inspection. I will be gone for a few days. I am taking Grace with me so you don't need to worry about picking her up.

I Love You and Goodbye.

The last part of the note mad Rick step back in his mind. She told him goodbye not see you in a few days like she has done before on these kind of trips. Rick also knew that Lisa never took Grace with her. He knew that something was up. Rick went to check her closet and all her close where still there and all of Graces stuff was there too. That put Rick mind at ease. Then he thought maybe she found about his double life with the Black Ops.

“Rick you been in the game to long. You’re getting paranoid. Lisa is not leaving me. She just went on a trip. Just Like I have too.” Rick said to himself as he gathered a few things before heading to the airport.

Rick arrived at the hanger and Lee was already there waiting for him. During mission like this Lee was his REO. Rick F-18 was already loaded with munitions. Everything the might need for this run. Rick went into the office and they started there prep for the flight.

Just about when they where done Rick got a phone call. It was from his brother. Rick looked at his phone and didn't have the time right now to talk to him he let it go to voice mail. Rick and Lee climbed into there jet and headed out.

Rick rolled out to the end of the runway and got his permission to take off. The tower cleared him for departure. Rick put the throttles to the firewall and was airborne in no time. Lee gave him heading and ETA to the first refuel point. Rick turned the jet to the heading and settled in for the long flight.

Unknown to Rick some one was watching him from the field at the base. Lisa know it was him and here worst thoughts where coming true. Rick was leaving her and watching him tale off was all the proof she needed. She climbed aboard the jet that would take her and the command staff she picked out to there new home. Lisa felt a single tier fall down her cheek, and wiped it away before anyone could see her pain. The transport was loaded and took off to the southeastern part of North America.

It took about four hours for Lisa to get to her new home. When she got there Roy Fokker and Claudia was waiting there for her. They had arrived a few days earlier in Roy VT. Roy was there to help set up the new fighter group and then he would return back to Macross. Claudia came with him just to spend time with Roy. Gloval had given her a few days off so she could.

When Lisa got off the transport Claudia could tell just by the look on Lisa face that she was hiding her pain of leaving Rick behind. Claudia knew it was the hardest thing that Lisa could do. But if Rick was hurting Lisa that bad then Claudia knew that Lisa did the right thing.

“Hello Lisa. How was the trip?” Roy asked in is normal charismatic attitude.

“It was long and boring. The good thing is that Grace slept the whole way here. Just like when....” Lisa stopped mid sentence. She was thinking when Rick took them flying.

“Well that’s good to hear.” Claudia said seeing Lisa pain again.

The four of them went back to the jeep that Roy drove up in. Roy put Lisa and Graces bags in the back. They drove to where Lisa was staying. As they got closer to her new home Lisa could see that it was a little bigger then the rest of the house around the area.

Lisa figured it that it was because she was the base commander. She didn’t want this kind of special treatment. As they walked in the house Lisa was ah struck by the beauty of it. It had hard wood floors an elegant stair case. The kitchen was bigger then see had seen. As Lisa checked out the rest of the house she could not believe that she was going to stay there.

“I can’t stay in a place like this. It’s just too much for just me and Grace. Is there some where we could stay?” Lisa said.

“This is the perks of being the base commander.” Roy said joking

“If this is too much we can see if we can find you something smaller. Personally I think once you get settled you will love living here.” Claudia said.

“Maybe your right Claudia. I guess this will be ok.” Lisa said still thinking that the house was going to be too much.

They spent the rest of the afternoon unpacking her things. A part of Lisa wish Rick was there with her, but he was gone and she knew that he would never return. Lisa started to cry inside, the thought of losing Rick again was breaking her heart. Claudia saw the pain on Lisa face. She hoped that Lisa would be ok. Claudia knew that she had to do something when she got back to Macross City.

Rick and Lee where cruising over northern east coast of Canada. They had made there first in flight refuel stop. They where running right on time for there plan. As they where about to reach the west coast of Greenland the got a message from Black Ops HQ.

"What we got Lee?" Rick asked.

"It a new course correction. HQ want us to turn zero six five and land at Thule Air Base Greenland." Lee said.

"What the hell is there? I thought that base was closed a long time ago." Rick said with a concerned tone.

"So did I Rick, but that our orders."

"Ok then turning to course zero six five. ETA is thirty minutes." Rick said

Rick rolled the plane to the new course. He began his descent in to the abandon base. When they where about ten minutes out from the base a man came over the com.

"Black Ops six this is Thule air bases please come in."

"This is Black Ops six go ahead." Lee answered.

"Good you are almost here. Colonel Hunter you are cleared to land on runway 12. The general is waiting for you in the hanger on the south end of the field." said the controller.

"Roger that. Our ETA is five minutes." Rick said.

Rick landed his plane and taxied it to the south end of the field. As they pulled up Rick could see General Andrew standing out. Rick parked the plane just off to one side of the doors. He climbed out and walked over to the General. As Rick got close he snapped the General a salute. General Andrew returned it and then reached his hand out to shake Rick’s.

"Welcome to Greenland Colonel. How was your trip?" Andrew asked Rick.

"All in all it was good. General may I ask what we are doing here? I thought we where going to Old London on a raid." Rick asked

"You are Rick but you first need the right equipment for it. You old fight has severed you well, but with the Warlord getting better technology. It was high time you got a new bird." Said Andrew as he started walking to the hanger doors.

"Sir my girl has done me well I don't want to replace her." Rick said as he followed Andrew.

"Trust me Colonel you will like what I am going to show you." Andrew said as he reached the hanger door.

General Andrew opened the door and stepped inside. As Rick followed him in was sure that nothing was going to compare to his F-18. When he saw what was in the hanger he was dead wrong. Rick look at the new aircraft like a child look at a Christmas tree on Christmas morning. He could not believe what he saw. It was rare to find a working F-18 but an F-35 JSF was even rarer. She was painted solid black except for some white lettering on it. As Rick walked around the plane he notices the name on the side of the cockpit. Rick’s name was on the side. Under it was a call sign. It was a new one for him. Rick read the name on the plane.

"Black Knight! Who came up with that?" Rick asked out lauded.

"I did." said a female voice from behind Rick.

Rick turned around and saw Kelly Davies. Rick was surprised that she was here. Rick had not seen her in almost five years. Rick saw that she was still as beautiful as ever. Kelly and Rick got into a relationship not long after Rick had joined the organization. They where together for almost three years until she broke it off. Rick stilled cared for Kelly but never did love her. Rick heart belonged to someone else and Kelly knew it. That was the reason she broke it off with Rick.

There was still an uneasy friendship there but not like when they where together. Rick wondered why Kelly had come up with this particular call sign for him. He didn't have to wait long for an explanation.

"I gave you that name because in this plane your deeds will just as a Black Knights of old. Doing the nasty tasked that the other knight would not do." Kelly said coldly.

She never liked what Rick had to do but always supported what had to be done. Kelly knew that Rick was to kind hearted of a person to do what he had done over the past ten years. Yet every mission he was given he did with out hesitation. A part of Kelly hated him for doing that but the other part realized how brave he was.

"I am not sure if I should be insulted." Rick said joking. Rick knew what Kelly was getting at.

"Well Colonel what do you think?" Andrew said interrupting the two of them.

"Sir she is a beauty. When can I take her up?"

"Plans have changed. There will be a briefing at 1900 hours." Said Andrew.

“I will be there sir.” Rick said and saluted the General.

Andrew saluted Rick back and left the hanger. Rick watched him for a few seconds and turned back to his new aircraft. He looked at with amazement. Rick couldn’t wait till he could take her out for a flight.
