fanfic = Chapter Twelve – Sex and Macross City

To be complete honest there was not a huge change in my life now that Shin was not in it anymore, well at least at the beginning; in fact he never left my life completely. We sent each other e-mails with all the news of each base, for the little he wrote about his private life, he was not making his part of the bargain, we both were widowers mourning.

The opening flight of the SDF-1 was scheduled for the beginning of 2009, therefore more or least in June the new crew arrived to take their places in the bridge, for an odd reason Gloval preferred to work with woman, all deck officers were girls. Claudia and I had the huge task to train them, and despite we thought it might be pretty difficult and hard, it was otherwise.

Specially we fond with three girls, since they walked trough the door, Claudia, the Captain and I understood it would be an experience to work with them… Sammy Potter, Vanessa Leeds and Kim Young were something else, they met in the academy (they all are Americans) and since them they were inseparables.

Each one of them has a different personality, but in a way they complemented. Sammy was a coquette a potential Britney Spears in her “hit me baby one more time” era; Vanessa was very similar to my friend Vanessa, funny and put together at the same time, the voice of the reason of the trio; and finally Kim was the girl next door (as Claudia describe her), simply adorable.

Claudia insisted to include them in our girls out dates, and in that way they became the good friends they are, always outside of the base, inside they understood that Claudia and I were they superior officers and they had to follow orders.

It was funny to hang with them, in a way I’d never had a group of friends before… in fact I’d never had a best friend until I met Claudia. We used to go to the movies, shopping, to the theater, dancing or any other activity that kept our mind away from the bridge.

We implemented the “Sex and the City” day, Claudia loved that series, “it’s like coming back home” she once said.

- I’ve never been in NY – Sammy answered, she was from Texas – in fact that is the reason why I join the army to know the world

- You did it to meet guys, despaired guys – Kim said very casual and Sammy frowned

- I was born there but moved after the 9/11, my parents decided it… too many bad memories you know.

- What are you talking about Vanessa? – I asked

- My brother was a firefighter, he died in “ground zero” during the rescuing activities

- I’m sorry I… - I didn’t know where to stick my head

- No problem, it was so long ago and I remember so little about it, I adored my brother and that is why I decided to join the army.

- Yes for that and the boys – again Kim, but her joke made us laugh

- Why do you join the army? – Vanessa asked

- My father died in “Desert Storm” – Claudia answered

- My mum’s family… they died in the Balkans battles in Croatia – it was Kim’s turn

- I’ve already say it to meet the world and to do something good for mankind and you Lisa, what’s your reason?

- I don’t know nothing besides the army – in their faces I could read they didn’t belive it – my father is in the army, his father was in the army and so on, my mother died when I was still a girl and that’s my sad story

- No wonder your are the Ice Queen Hayes

- SAMMY – all the girls said at the same time

- I know how people called me behind my backs, that bloody nickname followed me from the Military academy in England.

- Well is our personal crusade to help you to stop being her – Vanessa said very serious

- That’s right… we might not have fabulous NY city as scenario – Claudia completed very solemn

- The New Yorker spoke – I interrupted her

- Shuss Brit… we will find a Mr. Big for our little Carrie Bradshaw

- I’ve always picture Lisa as a Miranda not a Carry – Kim said, and yes I’m as workaholic as Miranda

- Yes but Mr. Big is so much handsome than Steve – Sammy answered her

And just like that the girls began they hunting to found each on of us Mr. Big, I never in a thousand years I could imagine that I would come to have a relationship very similar to Carrie’s…

The girls were always very discrete about my previous relationships, all the base knew or suspected about Shin Kudo. It was quite estrange because the rumors existed, but just a few believe them, it was almost impossible to picture Ice Queen Hayes and always distant Lieutenant Kudo being something more than brothers in arms.

I didn’t know when I began to trust so much in the girls, Claudia helped a lot. She was not part of “Sex and Macross City” girls as Roy once joked about it…. Claudia was a married woman, with not stupid ring or contract, she and Roy had the happiest marriage I’d seen, they were so happy, and know I think life is not always fair.
