R/N's: Ok, just read this. The original jump in the series takes them past Pluto, so I am just having this little idea of having them go way past Pluto, into the Unknown (plays Twilight Zone music) any way, I am giving Lisa a real man, not some fake dead man who most likely left a lot to be desired in the loving area. Anyway, read.

Gloval made up his mind. “Claudia take us down over Macross Island. At two thousand feet altitude activate the fold system for a position jump.”

Claudia debated the whether she should question the order; this was a wartime situation. But at certain critical times allegiance to duty could demand something more than mere obedience. “Are you sure you want to do that, Captain? The fold system hasn't even been tested yet!”

“I am aware of how risky it is, Claudia, but you can read the situation displays and tactical projections as well as I.”

She could, and had, as they all had. The alien fleet had already been deployed in an inescapable net and was drawing the net tighter around the SDF-1. “If we stay in this position, we'll be totally defenseless,” Gloval added.

“But we're not even sure how the system works!” Lisa reminded him.

“That's why I am bringing us as close to Macross as I dare,” Gloval said calmly. “All Doctor Lang's calculations and preliminary findings are based on experiments conducted at hat location.”

He looked around at his bridge gang. He wasn't used to having to having to explaining orders, but it was important that his reasoning go on record so that if they didn't survive the engagement, what he'd done might be if use in later decisions.

“We can't just surrender!” he said hotly. “We have to try everything we can first! So ready the fold position for an immediate position jump to anywhere beyond out current position. Get your radar ready for an access radar check, Lisa.”

The bridge gang got to work, speaking into comcircuits, operating their consoles, while Gloval gave the orders in a steady voice. “We'll make the jump from precisely two thousand feet above the island.”

“Don't we need permission from headquarters?” Claudia asked.

He shook his head. “We don't have time for that.”

“But Captain, you know the regulations specifically—” His gaze was white-hot now, making her falter. “Sorry, sir…”

Gloval took in a breath. “I know what the regs say, but I appreciate your bringing it to my attention.”

        “I just wanted to--”

“Claudia! You've got your orders!” he turned away, hands clasped behind his back once more.

“Yes sir, Captain,” she said through locked teeth, and turned to do as she'd been commanded. “Attention all hands. Priority! Fold system standby! Readying energy at maximum-green at all power sources.”

“Fold now!” Gloval said as he turned, Claudia, tired of trying to argue her point with Captain Gloval did as she was told and the SDF-1 folded. Leaving the Zentraedi fleet behind in its closing net.

Rick opened his eyes and looked around him. He was in a dark room and he could hardly see past his own hand. He sat up and started to search around for the Mockingbird hoping to find the flashlight he kept in the cockpit. He moved blindly about flailing his hands about hoping that he didn't hit the far wall.

As he shuffled around he tripped on something. His hands moved to whatever it was and he felt him hand on something warm and soft. He was puzzled as to what would be warm and soft in the hanger bay where the Mockingbird was held. He didn't need to wait much longer to find out as a hand connected with his face and a shrill female voice cried out.

“Taking advantage or a woman when in the dark you pig, how could you!?” Minmei screamed at Rick as she moved away in the dark. Rick moved forward to get closer to her as he stumbled over his apology. “I'm sorry Minmei,” he said trying to sound as sorry as he could.

But he couldn't dwell on feeling too sorry, she did however, have very nice breasts he though as he moved for the Mockingbird. He quickly learned a second later that god had a hand in everything, and a sense of humor. He ran right into the Mockingbird wing with the point going right into his crotch causing him to yelp and scream in pain both at once.

Rick pulled himself up as he moved for the cockpit, having been with the Mockingbird so long; he instinctively got to the cockpit and pulled the hatch open. He leaned into the cockpit and started to rummage around. He started to pull things out and throwing them onto the floor.

Rick leaned more into the cockpit an leaned to far forward as he went face first into the cockpit causing a huge ruckus. Rick started to move his arms to get himself out of the cockpit when his hand hit something cylindrical and he lost the grip with his hand and went face first back onto the floor of the Mockingbird.

Rick groped around for the flashlight and found it just as the lights came on. Rick thought for moment that he had died and that god was coming to take his soul. But instead he heard the cheerful laughter of Minmei. Rick tried hard not to scream obscenities at himself for not thinking of a light switch.

Rick pulled himself out of the Mockingbird and just looked at the flashlight. He walked towards Minmei and she laughed again at him. Rick looked back at the Mockingbird trying to remember why they had been in this hanger in the first place.

Rick remembered that they were going to try and fly back to Earth. He walked to the hanger bay window and looked out. He didn't say anything as he saw that where the Earth had been there was now nothing. He had thought at first that there had been a direct hit on the SDF-1. But he was wrong.

This must have been that fold thing Roy had been rambling about. They had folded from Earth, away from the aliens, away from the danger. Rick knew there would be no returning to Earth, not right now anyway.

Rick heard someone coming and realized that the door was open.  He turned to see Roy and some other pilots with him. Roy cracked his usual big smile as he stood in the door. “Well Rick, glad to see you're where I left you,” he said in a smart ass tone that Rick had grown so used to.

“Hey Roy, what the hell happened?” Rick asked him as he walked towards Roy. Roy patted him on the back hard and Rick stumbled forward. Rick composed himself and gave Roy an evil look. “You know Rick,” Roy started. Rick looked up at him. Roy stopped thinking if he should really try to persuade Rick to join.

“You know Rick, the SDF-1 is a long way from home now.” Rick nodded his head. Roy was glad that he was getting this.

“Were going to need more pilots to help replace those we lost today, but don't worry, I don't think there will be any danger because we jumped far away from the bad guys.” Rick rolled his eyes and Roy knew he was talking to Rick like he was in third grade.

“What is it Roy? Do you want me to enlist in the RDF?” Rick looked at him and Roy nodded his head. Rick looked over to Minmei and wondered if a dashing uniform and an attitude to boot would impress her. He realized that there wouldn't be a whole lot for him to do otherwise. He was a pilot, and even if it meant he had to become a military pilot, he knew he would have to fly.

Rick walked back to Roy and nodded his head, “Yeah Roy, I'll join the RDF, besides what would they do letting a pilot like me slip through the cracks? I am just too good a thing to pass up,” Rick said in his most arrogant and haughty tone. Roy laughed and hit him on the back again.

“You know Rick, were so far away from Earth right now, that there is talk that we'll never make it back,” Rick turned to Roy with a surprised look on his face. Rick was shocked that the Captain of the ship would jump them so far away from Earth, something must have gone wrong.

Captain Gloval stood on the Bridge looking out the view port, wondering that had happened that had caused the SDF-1 to jump so far from Earth. He must not have allowed enough time for the computers to accurately get the coordinates in. This was his fault for disobeying regs.

But there was no time to feel sorry, or blame anyone. They were so far from Earth right now that there was a good chance that they wouldn't get back in their lifetimes. They would need to first find a planet that had some form of water, food and maybe some raw materials that they could use. So instead of trying to do it fancily, so he just pointed in a direction and told the women to go in that direction.

“But Captain,” Lisa protested, “should we try to figure the best direction with the computers?” She asked.

Gloval laughed, “Sometimes the best way to do thing is KISS.” Lisa looked at him full of confusion as she tried to figure out what KISS meant. “But sir, what is KISS?” The bridge burst out laughing.

Claudia looked towards Lisa and smiled, “Girl, you must have been a very unhappy child to not know what KISS means. KISS means Keep It Simple Stupid.” Lisa's face went beet red as she looked around in embarrassment.

Gloval laughed and looked at the embarrassed Lisa, “Don't worry Lisa, it wasn't an insult on your intelligence, I was just trying to lighten the mood.” But Gloval knew his apology was too late, she had the cold look on her face and everyone groaned. It was going to be a long next few hours.
