BAD CHOICES

-“Damn!“, groaned Rick, throwing himself on the bed and burying his head under the pillows.

His room was a mess, clothes all over the coach. No coffee, no food in the refrigerator. Thank God, he was careful with the paper stuff.

What a miserable day! – he gasped. But finally he had to admit reality.

Ok. He had to admit it was all his fault.

Why does he always have to pleased Minmei? If only he had stayed and had that picnic with Lisa.

-“Lisa…”. He was attracted to her for so long. Not only because she was a beautiful woman, with green flashing eyes where you could drawn gladly or because she was brave and intelligent. He was attracted to Lisa because she had an honest heart and was the only person besides Max, who was genuine interested in his life, since Roy’s death. She was the friend that could do anything to make him feel loved, happy and desired, and surprisely he also knew he would do the same for her.

She had indeed become the center of his life, as he had told her that rainy night in his quarters. He was not able to identify when did it happened but it was truth. And was not able to denied it.

The fight before that rainy night, had made him realized that he always was in pain, after each of them. He almost felt miserable.

Only after they left Claudia’s quarters that night, he was able to win his own lack of courage towards Lisa and confess her, that she was very important to him. Gladly, he was rewarded with the most beautiful words he had ever listened in those years.

-“You also are very important to me, Rick”, Lisa said. Her green eyes never leaving his.

With tears she continued.

-“You have given me the opportunity to live again. I was always scared to be hurt by others. To escape, I built up an ice armour to protect myself. Until…I knew you.”

Lisa smiled and touch my hair with her delicate hand. It was then, when she kissed my cheek with such tender, that I felt I was going to melt.

-“Thank you Rick, for making me feel special, even when we are arguing”.

Since that conversation, our relationship for good or bad, became even closer. We shared our personal and professional problems, painful and fun stories of our families, our hopes for the future and many other things.

But that was the past. Reality was reality. And the fact was that today, he had acted as a jerk!

The image of Lisa telling him to go away, to leave her alone and her final words, haunted him.

-“I recognize Minmei’s perfume in your scarf. Don’t you dare to invite me ever again, Rick.“

And he was completely sure that she will keep her word.

Frustrated Rick arose from his bed and walked near the window, to see the snow that was still falling.

-“It is hard to believe, how deeply you could hurt the people you really care” –thought Rick.

Just because Minmei called him.

Why he always choose to be an idiot. Minmei have not dedicated him, a single serious thought in years.

“And now, because he had rescued her and Kyle some weeks ago, he believes that Minmei had changed and that their meeting was going to be different? But for what purpose?”

Minmei was a very desirable woman, a little bit selfish, with defects but a nice person, and his friend.

But it was clear to him, that today he had been uncomfortable. He was worried for Lisa and deep in his inner world he wanted to leave Minmei and return to her.

But then, why was he sitting in that expensive restaurant? Waiting? Waiting for what? At the end, it was always the same. Minmei had left with Kyle.

Alone in the bar, Rick realized that although Kyle had been rude with Minmei, he was right. Minmei had the responsibility of fulfilling her activities scheduled in advance.

Minmei’s desire of meeting him, was only a pretext to escape from her responsibilities. Worst of all, if she was really interested in spending some time with him, she would had programmed her time in advance, in order to avoid any kind of interruption. But she didn’t. So, the conclusion was the same for him. He was always the fool of the picture.

Nothing had changed. He always “had” to be her consolation and be at her disposition. It never was reciprocal. And as a result of this mess, he had lost Lisa, the only person he cares.

-“ Will she allow me to speak with her for a while and explain things?” -thought Rick.

“- And what explanation he will be able to give her? Will she allowed him to recover her friendship?

-“Dammit! what have I done? ”
