fanfic = On board the SDF-1, Max was discussing with the Captain, Roy, and Rick on can he and Miriya bring Azzedy and Jennifer out on the training veritech. “I understand that they are extremely talented pilots. What makes you are sure that they’ll be interested?” Max pushed his glasses up along his nose bridge. “I’m sure they’re interested because after losing their fellow pilots, they’ve lost their confidence in their machine’s capabilities.” Roy put up a very confident face. “I agree with Max. That way, we’ll have more veritech pilots.” Rick nodded his approval. The Captain sighed deeply. “If you’re confident, then I’ve no objection. Very well Lieutenant Sterling, you have my approval but I won’t be too sure if the colonel will agree to it. Dismiss.” They saluted the Captain before they left his office.

Roy suddenly has a suggestion. “Looks like you’re going to have to make them learn fast.” Max gave him a very confident smile. “No worries Roy. Miriya and I will make sure everything will be fine. Now if you don’t mind, I’ll be informing Miriya that we’ll be leaving in an hour.” He saluted both Roy and Rick before leaving to his quarters. “He’s one of a kind don’t you think little brother?” Roy puts his arm around Rick’s shoulder. “An ace with a golden heart. Why can’t you be like that Roy?” Rick smirked while looking at Roy’s face. “Funny Hunter. Funny.”

Inside the Sterling’s quarters, they were getting ready for the flight training program. “Everything’s set honey. Don’t forget Dana’s spare bottle. She might need it.” Max went back in to get Dana’s bottle and made sure everything she needed while they’re away is packed. After leaving Dana at Jean’s place, they went down to the hangar and boarded the trainer planes. They were about to taxi it out of the hangar when Ben yelled while his veritech was taxi into the hangar. “Hei Max! Miriya! Go easy on which ever poor soul you’re taking today ok!” Max laughed and waved to his friend. “Sure thing Ben.” When the trainers were positioned on the runaway, Lisa gave them the clearance for take off. “VT-102 and VT-103 you are clear for take off.” The two pilots took off and headed for the SJS Carrier.

“SJS, this is VT-102 and VT-103 requesting permission to land.” June received the request and cleared it. Once they’ve landed, Captain Rizal came to greet them. “Lieutenant Sterling? It’s quite a surprise to see you and your wife to be here this morning.” Miriya took off her flight helmet and free her hair. “If you don’t mind captain, we’d like to take Lieutenant Azzedy and Lieutenant Jennifer for a test run on our veritechs.” Rizal smirked and told them to wait for a moment while he asked the requested pilots to get ready.

Azzedy and Jennifer were still in bed. She was half awake when she heard somebody was opening the door. She quickly hid herself under the covers. Azzedy was surprised to see Rizal in front of him. “Suit up. I want you and Jennifer to be on the flight deck in ten minutes.” He was about to leave when he saw a slight movement in the other side of the bed. “Who’s in there?” Jennifer slowly came out of the blanket with her grin. “Make that fifteen minutes.” As soon as the door was closed, they looked at each other and laughed. “I guess we have to get out now.” Jennifer gave him another kiss before leaving for her quarters. Azzedy got up and get himself ready to report on the flight deck as ordered.

Fifteen minutes passed and the two pilots were right on schedule. When they got there, they were surprised to see the Sterlings there. They stood in attention and gave Rizal a salute. “Lieutenant Azzedy and Jennifer reporting as ordered sir.” As soon as they were ordered to be at ease, they were even more surprised to what they were about to hear. “Today the two of you will fly with the RDF pilots on board their training veritechs. Reminder, you’ll be conducting a live firing exercise so please don’t do anything stupid.” The Lieutenants laughed because they knew Rizal meant his words. The Sterlings saluted the captain before boarding their planes. The Sterlings took the back seats while the Lieutenants took the front ones. “Okay Lieutenant. First off, you’ll be using the location codes as listed on your navigation computer. The controls are much similar to the fighters you’re flying.”

They taxi the planes on the runaway and requested for clearance. Once they’re cleared, Max asked them to head to tango 231. “See that island over there? Head down there and pull the lever marked B. It stands for battloid.” They pulled the lever and they were amazed how the fighter transformed in just seconds. They landed on the beach of the island. “The foot paddles are now for the foot movements. If you press it inwards, it will activate the booster. You can control the upper body by just using the two control levers each located near your hips. Go ahead. Roam around.” Azzedy took his first step and tripped. Jennifer took it nice and slow. Azzedy got up and gave it another try and he was doing better.

Miriya now asked them to move around strafing with their boosters in order to evade enemy fire. They’re doing quite well and that brought smile on the faces of the Sterlings. “So can we dance with these things Lieutenant?” Jennifer then popped onto his tech channel. “Hei, you’re supposed to be learning you quack.” Max laughed and instantly continued in his professional voice. “Alright, now we’ll get acquainted with the gun pod. Try to fire five rounds towards those rocks over there.” They fired the gun pod with ease and they enjoyed it. Miriya then asked them to tryout the sniper scope. “You think that’s fun? Hit the ‘SNIPE’ button near your trigger. You can shoot anything accurately with these modes. Try to take out those trees by their trunks.” After they fired a few rounds on a few trees, Miriya think that it’s time they try the guardian configuration. “Now let’s pull the G lever now shall we.” They pulled the lever and to they’re surprised, they’re back in the normal cockpit position except the control levers on their sides for the arms.

“Now let’s try to pick up some trees and move it to another place.” They followed the instructions well despite the bumps they had with each other while trying to pickup something. “How are you feeling Eddy?” Max asked Azzedy, who’s still struggling to get it right while Jennifer was doing just fine. “It’s harder than it looks.” He replied to Max. He eventually got the hang of it. “Now we try the fun stuff. The guardian fires light missiles. They’re maneuverable and you can shoot down multiple targets by using the directional pad located near your firing trigger. You can only take multiple targets after you arm your missiles for a shot. First, you will drop five decoys on the ground about twenty meters from one another then Jennifer will try to engage these decoys with the missile’s multi targeting system. Then she will do the same for Azzedy here.” After the instruction was understood by the pilots, they initiated it. Both of them successfully completed the objectives on their first try.

Now they asked them to hit the booster the lift them up horizontally before switching back to fighter mode. After switching to fighter mode, they were asked to do the same objective they were asked to do with the guardian mode. “The fighter launches heavy missiles. It’s a bit less maneuverable then the guardian’s light missiles but it can do a lot of damage and it lasts longer.” Like the guardian training, they’ve succeeded. Both the Sterlings were satisfied and ordered them to return to the carrier. On their way back, they were passing by the Satang Island where they’ve lost Alphonsus when the E. M. P waves were chasing them. He could see a lot of debris on the shore of the island. He saw bits and pieces of Hornet planes and Zentraedi fighter pods and even what’s left of the battleships. He even saw some pieces belonged to their lost friend’s stealth fighter.

“Max, do you mind if we land there for a moment.” Max heard what happened here they too were sad for the lost. “Alright, but we can’t stay too long.” Azzedy veered down towards the island while Jennifer followed him and landed in guardian mode. There, they walked towards the stealth’s leftovers. Max remembered how Alphonsus and Azrul introduced them with their local delicacies. He let out a small laugh and Miriya noticed it and put her arms around his waist. Azzedy squat down and touched the leftovers with his fingers.

“Hi buddy. I’m sorry for not looking out for the both of you. It’s been awfully quiet for us on the ship without both of you. I’ve sent your belongings to your families. Rest in peace ombres’. We all miss ya.” He got up and gave Jennifer a hug while the Sterlings look on. “Shall we go?” Max asked them and they nodded. “Yeah. Let’s go.”

Back on the carrier, Rizal was debating with the Colonel while walking towards the bridge. “Forget it Captain, we need you up here.” “But sir, I want combat!” The colonel opened the door furiously but he didn’t enter right away. Instead, he stood in front of the young captain looked up into his face as he was a lot taller than the colonel and shout it out to him. “The only way you’re gonna see combat is if you bust your way back to Lieutenant! Get me?!” “Yes sir I get you.” As soon he finished his last words he left for his quarters while Rizal sat on his seat in the bridge. Sheila turned to look at him and asked him a question. “Sir, are you sure you want to fly again sir?” Rizal looked at her face and he could see that she was worried like hell. “I don’t know. But I just can’t let any of them die anymore.” Sheila was almost in tears when she heard that he wanted to do combat missions again. It was bad enough to lose their two best friends from the academy but she can’t afford to lose the rest of them especially Rizal.

The training Veritechs arrived at the carrier and the two pilots got down and saluted the Sterlings. “Thanks for the ride Lieutenants.” Max was smiling widely. “It’s not just a ride, it was part of your secret training with the RDF. You’ve passed with flying colours and I’ll just need to submit the reports and wait for what captain Gloval thinks of it.” Azzedy and Jennifer smiled widely and thanked the Sterlings one more time. As soon as the veritechs left the carrier, they both went back to the locker room and changed before heading to the mess for lunch.

At the mess hall, Rizal was sitting alone playing with his food. He had lost his appetite since the argument he had with the colonel. Sheila, Yong and June were also there but they wouldn’t want to bother Rizal because they knew he wasn’t in a good mood. A few minutes later, Azzedy and Jennifer arrived and saw Rizal. They sat near him and try to see what’s eating him. “What’s with the long face?” Rizal looked at them and sighed. “I’ve told the colonel that I want to fly combat missions again.” Jennifer shook her head to show her disapproval. “We need you to guide us from down here. You’re a better pilot than any of us but you have another talent and that is to come up with strategies.” Rizal just nodded and continued playing with his food.

Max and Miriya reported to the Captain as soon as they’ve got into their uniform. “I’m quite impressed with both of your judgments. It seems that these two pilots are capable of flying the veritech even on their first outing. See to it that they’ll have their veritechs as soon as possible. That will be all.” The Sterlings saluted the Captain before leaving his office. They straight away went to the hangar to find two VF-1A’s for them. While the Sterlings were handling the new fighters’ veritechs, Rick and Lisa were having lunch in the mess hall. “How come you always stare at me every time I eat or even when I was giving orders?” Rick smiled and held her hands in his. “Why can’t I? If you don’t want me to look at you then why didn’t you say so?” Rick sound offended. Lisa smiled and tightened her grip. “I was just wondering. Don’t get me wrong.” Things were quiet until Ben and Roy showed up.

“Hei there little brother, am I interrupting anything?” Rick now looking quite worried with the two teasers around. Lisa invited them both. “Not at all Commander Fokker, please join us.” They both pulled up a chair and ordered their lunch. “So boss, have you heard about the new pilots that Max and Miriya tested today? I heard they were good but they haven’t come up against me.” Ben then let out his cocky laugh. “I have to agree that they’re good since they’ve survived most of the battles with the old fighter.” Lisa gave her thought and Rick couldn’t agree more.

After half an hour of locating two available veritechs, they’ve found two good ones. They were used but were well maintained as well. After asking the chief technician to put the names of the pilots on the planes, they returned to their quarters to see their daughter. “We’ll ask them to come up and take a look at it tomorrow morning.” Miriya agreed to her husband’s suggestions and walked hand in hand towards their quarters.
